Whiskey Blanket is perhaps the world's most unconventional hip-hop group. The multi-talented trio integrates live violin, cello, and turn-tablism into haunting beat-scapes, only to drop their instruments and double as emcees. Add in a drum machine, harmonica, keyboard, some slick three piece suites, and a decade of shared experience, and you've got a show that's not to be missed. Incorporating musical influence that spans from Brazil to Japan and everywhere in between, the group’s four independent studio releases have garnered world-wide attention while never neglecting the rich musical heritage of their own back yard. Listeners find themselves drawn to the Blanket's unique and refreshing sounds, often unable to categorize what they're hearing. Whiskey Blanket believes that laptops are better for coffee shops than for live performances, so they're dedicated to creating a music experience that's energetic, engaging, and most importantly just that – musical. Buy their recordings and catch them live to support real musicianship while it still exists.
Steven Pampel, aka Steakhouse, is the mastermind behind Whiskey Blanket. As the producer/engineer, he lays the auditory foundation the group's sound is built upon. Classically trained on piano, he incorporates live keyboard and drum-machine textures that drive the trio between an emotive whisper and a thunderous roar. To top it off, he utilizes his ten-plus years of experience as a turntablist, lyricist and emcee, leaving the crowd (and himself) gasping for breath by the end of every show. Steven also frequents his boutique home recording studio to utilize his highly developed recording and mixing abilities that allow Whiskey Blanket to achieve an audiophile quality sound for their studio albums.
Joe Lessard, aka Sloppy Joe, is the trio's binding force who displays an unequivocal passion for music on stage and in the studio. Joe has 20 years of experience as a classically trained violinist, incorporating his diverse musical background in an unexpected and unique way. Whether shredding bow hair playing lighting fast death-metal riffs with the Blanket, or performing all over the country with some of the world’s top bluegrass musicians, this multi-genre madman brings an element to the table that neither of his bands could do without. As a gifted lyricist and emcee, Sloppy Joe has an innate ability to connect with listeners through his choice of words and style of delivery. Joe’s developed understanding of music contributes largely to the group's sound and will continue to advance their impact and influence.
Jordan Polovina, aka Funny Biz, is undoubtedly the group's front man. His gigantic personality and equally commanding physical stature give him an undeniable presence both on stage and off. Classically trained on the cello, Jordan finds a way to integrate strings, harmonica, beat-boxing, freestyling, and loop pedals, often combining them in a never-before-seen whirlwind of musical talent. There's nothing this dude can't rap about and there’s seemingly no instrument he's unable to play. Funny Biz is a powerhouse of a performer and studio musician, also boasting a decade of unabashed prowess as an emcee and lyricist that continues to drive the group's innovative approach to making music.
